Psychotherapy

TAILORED ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT SERVICES FOR INJURY, AGING, AND SPORTS.

Mental strength is not the ability to stay out of the darkness, it’s the ability to sit present in the darkness knowing that the light will shine again

Psychotherapists’ main focus is to help patients and their families cope with the EMOTIONAL aspects of a neurological illness. Many patients report feeling worthless, misunderstood, lonely, and frustrated because of their illness. They may also experience anxiety, difficulty controlling emotions, changes in relationships with family and friends, financial strain, and difficulty adjusting to changes in work, school, or home life. Life can be overwhelming for both the survivor and family members. Psychotherapy aims to improve relationships and decrease feelings of distress by giving you tools that help you feel capable of handling problems on your own in the future.

JENNIFER ALLEN

Jennifer believes that at the heart of the counselling process is the creation of trust, connection and compassion within the therapeutic relationship. This allows for a person’s inherent strengths, abilities and capacities to evolve, growth and healing to occur, and an enhanced awareness, understanding, and level of coping to be realized. Jennifer is a BC Registered Social Worker (RSW) with a Master of Social Work (MSW) from UBC. She has 25 years of experience in neurorehabilitation and has worked in a variety of health care settings, with a broad array of individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.

Jennifer has specialized skills and psychosocial knowledge about traumatic brain injury, concussion, stroke, neuromuscular skeletal disorders, and dementia. This includes helping people work through anxiety, depression, trauma, grief & loss, stress, adjustment to health changes, and relationship challenges. Jennifer incorporates a range of different approaches to facilitate client/family wellness including EMDR, mindfulness, cognitive behaviour therapy, and solution focused therapy, all of which are embedded in a trauma informed, systems perspective. She respects that people enter counselling for a variety of reasons. Jennifer welcomes the opportunity to work with you or your loved ones in a caring and supportive way to help you reach your rehabilitation goals and achieve an enriched quality of life.
